A7 is simply an A chord with the first finger raised. G is difficult but with time and practice it will soon become no problem. If you have chosen the easy option for G - that's fine for now. By the time you really need option two your hand will be much stronger.

Practice your G chord - putting it on and taking it off repeatedly - concentrating on quality of sound and not speed. Then practice changing from A7 to G and then from G to D.
Now practice your basic 4/4 strum following the chords of the song.
Then practice your new pick strum with the chords of the song.
When you feel reasonably relaxed - start singing the song.

If you feel the song is pitched too low for you, do try your capo on the first, second or third fret. If you take it any higher your guitar will start to sound a little like a ukelele!
